How hard is being a boss – P2

Being a boss, what will you feel if staffs do not understand all your hardship?

It surely is not a good feeling. Even though, sometimes, it is the loneness…

One time, no, exactly many times, I was complained by boss because I hadn’t completed my work in time. And there was a sentence that I still remember: “I respected you, didn’t check for you each day. But the result is, you are unpromising many times. Do you know my feeling? I find myself was not respected…”

I felt inside that sentence, is the disappointment. I had worried if those feeling can change her: stricter, drier or more uncomfortable?

If it was me, I would have said yes.

To warrant that I would never receive such an inadequacy like that, I would make a strict, clear rule about the mistakes.

And to confirm that the work was in process, I would check it more frequently, even every day.

Staffs, they didn’t kind, so why should I worry about them. I had to do much, while staff was diseMoonyged, so living my own life was the best.

That would be what I would think, and do, by instinct, a very natural way. And I believed, anyone, including my boss, will also be times confused with thoughts like that.

Between anger and calm, sometimes we have to choose.

Boss chose calm and soft: "Ok, this is the last time I said. Why do I have to request like that ... why should you do this or that ... ". Suddenly, I thought why my boss had to spend much trouble on that? Why didn't she pick the instinctive reaction, why did not she choose to be angry or yell like what I was thinking?

I felt guilty, found myself want to lift my foot off the chair, walked back in and redo everything fast.

And this was clearly the result of ignoring emotions, ignoring boss's ego.

Would it be if boss was always strict, always check and always thought for her feelings? Certainly, employees will respond with a disobedience, irritability, and superficial work.

And what if your boss will continue to be patient, continue to be kind? Certainly, employees will find themselves wrong, guilty and change without urge.

So, if you are the boss, if every day you are also confused to choose. Choosing to go the easy route: reacts with emotions, treats with what you received. Or choose to go the hard way: ignore your ego, use all your heart to make others better. I hope that you think carefully.

Easy road, what collection will it make up?

Hard road, how strong rebound it bring up?

I believe, you will find the most reasonable answer, wont you :)
