History of writing tools such as pencils has been developed thousand years. We always use pens in different types started from the first Egypt dynasty. Pencils were born long after other types of pen but they also have an important role. These are few interesting facts that not many people notice:

- From a normal tree, 2500 pencils can be produced.

- “Pencil” was started from an old French word “pincel” which means “a little palm tree”. In Latin, “pencil” started from “penicillus” that means “a little tail”

- Demetra Koutsouridon – a Greek, he had a collection of 8.514 different pencil sharpeners – It is the biggest pencil sharpener collection in the world.

- The word “blacklead” was begun from Greek word “graphein” which means “write”

- In 2004, manufacturers in China produced 10 billion pencils that can surround 40 times around the Earth.

- Curved pencils have the core made from flexible graphite and pressed wood.

- John Steinbeck (author of The Grapes of Wrapth - got Pulitzer prize in1940) had used 60 pencils a day to write his novel.

- The longest pencil is 323,51m. The pencil was made by Edward Douglas Miller – a Bristish. Nowadays, the pencil still keeps the Guinness record as the longest one in the world record.

- Emilo Arenas – a Uruguayan is the one who has the biggest pencil collection in the world. He has 16.260 pencils collected from all around the world and he keeps the Guinness record about it.

- The oldest pencil is preserved, made in 17^th century. The pencil has been found on a old German house roof.

- The coal used to make pencil actually does not contain any blacklead, just coal and clay.

- The most expensive pencil is limited edition from Graf von Faber Castell. The pencil was made from Olive 240 years old and sticked 18 cara platinum. Its price is $12800
