Saturday morning, my boss arrived at 8.01am. No one said a word but some of us were so happy because that would be the first time she was late. And of course, she would be punished.
But I was quickly upset when someone said "Luckly you, it depends on which clock you choose, mine is just 8". My boss responsed immediately: "Cool! Let's work."
I felt a bit disappointed. Saluted the flag, back to work and told myself, at least she has always been an ideal.
She has not let me be disappointed for so long. Right before lunchtime, she called us "Be on time means coming here before 8, so I was late. I will punish myself".
And here came the punishment my boss treated herself: Write inspiring emails to everyone during the week. Each for one. Some required everyday, including me, but she was still happy to say Yes.
The first email I received when I was having dinner, second one was around bedtime, and next one was at lunch... Everyday when we had time to rest, she tiredlessly wrote us the "punishment" emails with full of love and motivation.
"I scolded you a lot and ever told how you mean to me right? You have come and showed me many meaningful lessons about generosity and let things go..."
That was one piece of other seven emails she sent. It was rare to receive something like that, to know what my boss has thought about me, and to listen to her inner wish. If she did not come late at that day, I would never know that despite of all stress and presure, she has always been thinking about how to empower and develop every single one of us.
Actually, she could choose an easier way to be punished, like a pizza or some chicken fried in afternoon teabreak. She seemed like have no time to rest, why did she have to spend on writing us the dozens of email? Honestly, without care, sincerity and patient, those emails would never come to us.
I do not know how other companies' punishment runs. However, at Saxa, I have gained a lot of lessons after everytime one of us is punished. The lessons about keeping our promises, being brave, being responsible and giving love.
