The most beautiful woman

 

My mother is 58 years old. Two more years till the last journey of life. For a long time, my mother has not known which day is the International Women’s Day, which is Vietnam Women’s Day. When I got flowers on those days, my mother was happy just because she has some to arrange on my father’s table.

My father is not the one who can easily express his love. He has ever bought flowers, given presents or told “You are beautiful” to my mom. And I realized, I have not, either.

Occasionally, I come back to my home. At noon before I go back to city, my mother usually helps me pack up and prepare some gifts for my friends. There’s nothing special, just some fruits my family grew. Under the midday sun, my mom quickly put her old coat and went picking some lemons behind our garden. I followed her to help. Every moment she looked up at the tree, the sunlight made her eyes half closed and her wrinkles under eyes clearer. Those wrinkles are the most beautiful things I have seen, as the mark of all tough time she has been through to raise us.

Once my sister has a baby, as our tradition, she was back to our house. I came home to visit and saw my mother washing clothes for her grandchild, I asked “Why don’t you put all into washing machine?”. My mom scolded “It cannot be as clear as I do myself, what if its rotation is too strong and tears all the things? Poor my grandchild.” Then she happily told me about her little treasure was learning to turn his body or to smile. She did not even realize that her eyes were so merry when telling me. At that moment, she was more beautiful than ever. Her skin was ruddier, stretch marks blurred, gray hair smoother. Soap bubbles splashed every time her hands squeezed. Those hands have taken care of her family for whole life.

Maybe, it’s not natural that the world has a day dedicated to women. In Vietnam, we have two days because we all think our women deserve that. Nothing can be enough to honor them on these days, just because when they give, they never expect to receive anything. Sometime I think we are actually the best present she has choose for her life, to love, care and sacrifice. So when they receive our innocent love, it’s like a discount voucher for a luxury good, or an unexpected sale-off period of time. It’s fun to have, if not, it does not matter.

On these days, we would love to send the best wish to our most beautiful women. They maybe our mothers, sisters, girlfriends, or female colleagues. And we all know one or two days are never enough to say Thank You to them – the special ones has made our life easier and more meaningful.

Wish all our beloved women always be healthy, peaceful and happy!
