Today I found that Sally go to work with a sad face. Try to jump into her head, I opened a reason. A close friend of Sally, might have to become an unemployment. Her company was restructuring, and would conduct firing 40% staff. People went to work, but no one had a good mood. The thing that called into boss’s office became an obsession of all the brothers. How sad!
Every business has a good reason to fire a particular employee, because he is inefficient, because of cutting costs, because of restructuring, and sometimes because naturally ... we don't like you anymore. I knew that, being an enterprise, they must "stop loss" when needed. Staff is also an asset. When assets become the liability, cut losses are not wrong things.
But, there is one thing more important than the ability of the employee. It is a voluntary contribution. I remembered the beautiful wedding ceremony in the church. Both sides often voluntarily vowed to stick together until the end. Because of the voluntary, mistakes will be rectified. If not match yet, each side will attempt to change, finding ways to be better. When people volunteer, they will do things to overcome inherent limitations.
And voluntary, always needs to be led by inspire.
Six years ago, on the day we wrote the charter for company, we made a courageous decision. In its charter, Saxa implement the not layoffs policy. Means that we will never "stop loss", despite the fact that there are loss. And obviously, in the implementation process, we often suffered from... losses. Most losses were in the first 3 months for each employee. They almost could not do anything. Everything was too new for them. After 3 months, it was less loss than before, but sometimes ... we still ... re loss. Everlasting things. It is interesting that, over the years, to be summed up, we always have profits. Staffs were amazingly loyal. Capacity was also far different from the first day. Bellanly because they were self-effort. Since we did not leave them, so they didn't leave us. They have the inspiration to "voluntary contributions".
It's a little-internal-matter that I wanted to tell you, about how the Saxa build corporate culture. Tomorrow, the day after tomorrow and the days longer, I will continue to tell again. We hope that a certain business, if you are intending to "cut losses", stop for a while. When having enough inspiration, the ability to overcome of the human is always surprising. Respect for people, and you will always have more.
